The Hillside home had strong solar potential, but rising utility rates and frequent peak-time usage made monthly energy costs difficult to predict.
The homeowner wanted a system that could reduce grid dependence, protect against outages, and keep long-term running costs under control.

The challenge
High summer bills and outage risk were making energy costs harder to manage.
Before switching to solar, the home relied entirely on the grid during the most expensive parts of the day. Cooling demand, appliance usage, and evening energy needs created seasonal spikes that made monthly bills inconsistent.
The homeowner also wanted backup protection during short outages without installing a noisy fuel generator. The system needed to balance three things: everyday savings, reliable backup power, and a clean installation that worked with the existing roof layout.

Site audit
The system was planned around roof space, sun exposure, and real household usage.
Solwell reviewed the homeowner’s utility history, roof orientation, available panel area, and likely shading throughout the year. This helped determine the right system size, battery capacity, and expected production before any installation work began.
Rather than oversizing the system, the goal was to build around the home’s actual energy pattern. That meant prioritizing strong daytime production, evening battery support, and a payback period that made sense over the long term.

The solution
A 9.2 kW rooftop system paired with battery backup for evening use.
The final design included a 28-panel rooftop array and a 13.5 kWh battery system. During the day, the panels offset household energy use directly. Excess production charges the battery, which can then support the home during evening hours or short outages.
The installation was designed to be simple, low-profile, and easy to monitor. After activation, the homeowner could track production, usage, and battery status from a connected monitoring app.
